how to create outdoors room

How to create an outdoors room?

Space is a premium, which is why it is imperative to utilise as much of your home as possible. If you have a garden, then there are perfect solutions to creating another room, either by having an extension built, although this is an expensive option or a room in an outbuilding such as a shed or cabin, which can be furnished with gorgeous furniture for a relaxing space. However, if you need a place to study or work then with quality home office furniture you have another ideal solution.

Or maybe you want to bring your outdoor space alive with key pieces of outside furniture, such as seating or decorative carvings and if you have children then a playhouse. Maybe, if you're lucky you have a strong tree, which is perfect for a tree house hideaway, which can be furnished with children's desks and other wonderful pieces of children's furniture.

You are only limited to your imagination, as even if you have a small balcony, which is only big enough for a chair, then this too can be utilised, by using textures from plants to the colouring of the floor. If you use tiles arranged in a mosaic pattern or use timbered decking on the balcony, this will bring your outdoor space into your home, thereby creating a much more appealing and a welcoming area you will want to enjoy, no matter how small it is.

If you decide you want to extend your home, then thinking about conservatories will bridge the gap between outside and inside, there are many designs of conservatories and this all depends on the outside style of your home, a good conservatory should work in harmony with your house and garden, not against it. Also, consider the conservatory furniture you want to use, do you want it to flow with the room your conservatory leads off of, or do you want to match it with the outside furniture. One way to create a balance is to have key pieces of both types within the room itself and let it blend naturally.

If your idea of the perfect garden room is to create a space for entertainment, then there are numerous ways in which you can harmonise this area into a place where you can entertain family and friends. Firstly you need to decide if it's just for the summer months or do you want a space that will be used all year round. If you want a space for all year round, then one of the first pieces you will need is outdoor heaters or a fire pit, as in winter your guests will want to be close to a source of heat. Then you need to think about protecting guests from the elements such as wind and rain, should these occur whilst entertaining. A good solution is a water resistant awning, which can be pulled out as and when is needed. Plus you need good lighting, which sets the mood of your outdoor room. As for your garden furniture, you are spoilt for choice, you can choose from solid wood pieces, to ornate metal designs, not forgetting the rattan syles.

There are many types of lighting and this is all down to personal taste, there is lighting, which does require a power source, especially if you want to create a home office in the shed. But you also have solar powered lighting which tend to give a softer glow than powered sources, although whatever type of lighting you choose, you are fairly safe in the knowledge there are plenty of styles and designs around.

With the above ideas, you may look at your outside space with a different perspective and then begin to create another room.

A taster from our blog

Trends come and go, the key I find is to follow your heart and only opt for something you adore. Decorating your home is all about sourcing things you love whether they are hot or not. Having said that it’s important to be aware of whats going on in the world of design and to dip in and out as you so desire.

Colour is huge this year which is fab with yellow being the big hitter this season and replacing green as the key base shade in which to work. Many of us are frightened of yellow and yet its such a pick me up colour I get a little obsessed. From flowers, to cushions, to ceramics in every one of my rooms you will find a dash of yellow.  Having just returned from one of the largest accessory shows in the world in Paris patterns are again back in vogue. Think stripes, big repeats, pretty florals, blurry watercolour style prints and big bold geometrics. Rather than opting for one or two mix the whole lot together to create a bright happy pad. Confused don’t be decorating is personal there are no hard and fast rules just follow your heart.
