Pretty floral embroidery and velvets work well for soft furnishings. Choose a cushion with detail that compliments your walls and sits nicely on neutral bedlinen; white works well in such a traditional setting.

From your cushion take the lead for accessory colours, artwork, a cut glass vase, brass candlesticks and picture frames. It may be a lucky find in your local antique shop, a treasured family heirloom or a reproduction from a high street store.

It was a big old conundrum whittling down the number of pads to shoot but having done so now have a collection of some of the most inspiring places around –each uniquely different. We shuttled between London and New York and now have a tome that is jam-packed with cool ideas, practical advice and wonderful tips all super easy to achieve without spending loads of money. It's out in May so patience as my mother often says to me is a virtue!
